Tax Rebates HR 5140 (Roll Call 10)

The Senate passed a bill designed to “stimulate” the economy by giving taxpayers a one-time advance tax refund that was phased out for “wealthy” people with an annual salary of more than $75,000. The bill also encouraged Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make larger risky loans. ACU opposed the bill, considering the stimulus provisions ineffective and other provisions risky, but it passed February 7, 2008 by a vote of 81-16.
